I’ve had the privilege this week of witnessing a lot of different speakers…from directors, musicians and actors at The NY Film Festival to conference presenters in Orlando and Houston.
There is no question – NO QUESTION – that those who speak from the heart resonate with the audience. Speaking from the heart doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be somber. You can be lighthearted and whimsical, strong and declarative; curious and probing; but the authenticity of your message must be what leads your words.
Great executive presenters and great friends, great parents and great colleagues reconnect with their Through Line and the truth of what they are saying. Words match behavior; emotion accurate to the words spoken shines through. Make sure whatever it is you are saying matches what you are feeling.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Stop talking. Who you are speaks so loudly I can’t hear what you’re saying.”
